This week started with chapter seventeen and it was about decimals and percents. The group members that presented this chapter made a job at connecting their topic to fractions and relating this topics in the classroom because it will facilitate students when learning this concept. Also (and most importantly) the group made it clear for us to make it relevant to the students’ daily lives and how decimal, percents and fractions are part of everyday life. I remembered having a discussion in another class about using pizza or donuts to talk about fractions and I feel that that can make a great impact to students. The next presenter was me for chapter eighteen! I feel that it went well, yet I wished I would have come up with better interactive activities. The chapter was about proportional reasoning and it included using ratios to compare different or like objects. I chose to use the simple activities from the book because I felt that it was easy to use almost any thing within the reach of a child and make it into something mathematical. I like that about this book. I feel that it lets teachers apply math to about everything in the world of a child! Not to mention the countless amounts of websites that with a variety of subjects about math. For the rest of the class, we discussed the final project. I liked doing my lesson in class because the students were so excited about the topic of money and were inspired to expand their learning. This motivated me even more to use other subject areas and continue their interest on this topic!
